Barbados Internships

Our internships in Barbados are not just geared to give interns an exposure and experience in the dialysis setting; they are also an important way patients receive comprehensive care.

There are two healthcare institutions that provide dialysis in Barbados. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital dialyzes approximately 160 patients weekly and has about 50 patients on Peritoneal Dialysis. Sils Dialysis has 3 outpatient clinics that dialyze about 100-120 patients weekly.  Neither of these institutions employ dietitians or social workers.

Student who wish to intern in one of these institutions must complete our CKD course and dietetic interns must also complete our Nutrition Management course.

Our internships run from two to four weeks in the months of February -November.  The cost of the program (course + internship varies depending on the internship length desired, the degree program of the student and whether or not the student local or abroad.

Culturally Immersive Week

Students can choose to join us for a full week of culturally immersive activities aimed at getting them familiar with Barbados, it's geograpy, culture, people and food.

It's typically offered the first week of every month, except November -January.  It's an exciting week of discovery, adventure and learning.

Tours:  We specially select tours that help students experience the beauty of Barbados.  Most of the tours are food focused, like the Barbados Bridgetown Tour that takes you through this vibrant community of open markets, street foods and souvenir shops.

Activities:  Cooking with local chefs has always been a huge highlight for our students. We can also schedule basket weaving or volunteering in a soup kitchen.

Hikes: Barbados is filled with beautiful places to hike, like the Flower Forest, Walker's Reserve or Coco Hill. Not only will you view tropical splendor, but you'll learn about the local flora and agriculture in Barbados.
